The sky a wash of cold white and grey; the trees all brown, spindly branches or the most subdued shades of grey-green; and the swimming pool, an unlikely splash of the brightest color, like a giant aqua kidney bean outlined in rosy red brick.
Gosh, a swimming pool in winter. It would look so odd in my landscape - well, yes, like a "giant aqua kidney bean." Are there lots of outdoor pools there? None that I can think of here.
Yep, loads of outdoor pools--both public and in people's yards--and like the pool I live next to, most people don't seem to empty them for the winter. I can think of only one indoor pool in town, actually--though, there may be one I don't know about at UC Davis. Few of the public ones are open this time of year, except to the high school swim teams and the Masters Swimmers, but those two or three are definitely out of doors--the pools are heated, but you still have to get in and out! (And Davis isn't exactly Southern California, so it's not as if it's all sunny and 70 degrees all winter long. Brrr.)
I love the town of Davis. We stayed there overnight when we rode our bikes from CO to San Fran. (Also were at the Tour of CA when it started there a couple years ago.)
I see it.
