Mirage

The day is chilly, but the sun is bright, and just above the roof of the black car, the air shimmers with heat, distorting the look of the bricks right behind. Above the white car next to it, all is still.

  1. Or - maybe the guy in the black car was "hot." (Sorry, Amy - couldn't resist.)

    1. ;-) Sorry, Barb--both cars were empty, just hanging out in the parking lot, baking in the sun. (And, oh, I love that Blogger now lets us reply directly to comments! How cool!)

  2. I love those heat-waves! When I was a kid, my family bought a vacant lot and my dad spend a long time clearing it and designing a house to build there. We had many small fires burning the underbrush that was where he planned to build, and those rising heat waves always fascinated me. It's one of the few times you're aware of air being a something rather than a nothing.
    cheers, Laura

  3. Shimmering air is great! Captures that phenomenon perfectly.

  4. Don't you just love how if we really do it, mindfulness happens? Your writing has been so visual the last few days -- I'm right there, seeing what you see because of it.
